Not an easy or inexpensive airport to reach from downtown DC. Flying out of the A or B gates is much better than the C or D temporary gates.

The queue to clear immigration on a Saturday evening was a nightmare. There were only 2 agents on duty and it took over 2 hours to clear. The only positive was that my luggage had arrived, albeit I had to hunt around to find it as it had been sitting for so long ! AVOID AT ALL COSTS

The airport was nice overall. Plenty of restraunts. The building wasn?t maintained very well, and their was a lack of windows.

Dulles is a fine airport, just a tad far away from downtown DC. Many stores were closed when we landed because we landed from HNL at 6 am. Good layover spot for non locals, it doesn't get too crowded like an EWR or an ORD but it still has a lot of options for connections

Transferring at IAD was awful. Long lines everywhere, including right after exiting the aircraft, no clear signs. Plan for at least 2.5 hours for a transfer.

The commuter terminal at IAD is decent, due to it being very basic, almost like a bus terminal. No food options, but once more, the views of the tarmac are great

Immigration is truly terrible if you haven't got a specific passport/esta access level from the right country. If you have its a walk through automated gate process, really quick, but if you haven't surly, rude inspectors, 2 of them alone with 20+ desks available, to deal with over 500 waiting passengers. No urgency, no care, terrible.

I really liked the EY lounge. It was very close to the boarding gate. You literally walked out of the lounge and unto the plane.

Upon arrival there were two or three immigration officers! Terrible. No one informed us of the fact that travelers with ESTA should use reading machines instead of waiting for tens of minutes in a long line. It took them long time to realize that they should increase the number of available officers in the booths.

Very comfortable to fly out of. Everything is marked and you're always moving. The United terminal is slightly undesirable, but even there you're provided with a good variety of food and retail. The only downside to this airport is getting to it. If you don't live in Virginia it can be a bit of an inconvenience.

IAD is still the worst in terms of immigration. Although the installed the automated kiosks to speed up entry for return ESTA travelers, unlike at other airports, this did not cut much of the mile-long lines at the immigration.

I fly into IAD about 12 times a year and even though this airport is relatively better compared with other airports, just the transfer times, immigration and to and from airport to DC is taking too long. Hopefully the new Silver line metro link will improve the time taken to transfer between the airport and DC. A very few choice of dinning too.

TRAVELLED FROM EUROPE THOUGH DULLES AS ENTRY PORT.
CUSTOMS QUICKER THAN WAS BUT STILL A WORRY IF ONLY 60-90 MINUTES BETWEEN FLIGHTS IF THERE ARE QUEUES.

One Concourse only reachable by bus which is rather annoying. Though considering it?s a hub rather small airport but still rather long ways depending where your flights depart. Therefore very decend opportunities for dining and shopping. WIFI is nice too.

Nice for a US airport. Has got some good food/drinks options in the A/B concourse and not just fast food chains. Getting around is pretty quick, though security was understaffed and took too much time. Great: Express lanes from downtown help you avoid the hassle of drivers who are unable to get on or off a highway and the accompanying traffic jams.

Love traveling through IAD they have great WiFi. even though its a big airport security is easy+ check-in. 20 mins from Washington. so many food choices and they have a united hub which is the airline i travel on the most.

Airport far away from city center and bad connection but is improving as they are making an connection by metro. Airport itself is clean and nice. Boarding quick and efficient and the small train that brings you to the gate is very nice

I like the Washington DC Airport, it is easy to find all the Gates and when you fly out the Security works fine.....but when you fly in, the Immigration tooks a long time! Always 2 hours....about there are sometimes only 2-3 Points open...that?s not enough fpr so many people.
It is faster in Philadelphia or Charlotte, around about 30 minutes at least....an in Newark I was waiting only 10 minutes in December!

I thought I've waited an endless time at JFK customs, but I was definitely wrong. IAD customs is just horrible! After waiting more than 2h at the customs and grabbing my bags, I already had the next queue in front of me. It took me another 40 min. This is just ridiculous.

Immigration and customs very slow due to few offices, the arrivals hall seemed too dark and gloomy. It is very afar from D.C, the taxi ride took more than 1 hour due to the intense traffic of morning rush hour.

Very good idea separating connections baggage reclaim with local so your never waiting to long for your bags. Very quiet security back to the gates. Other airports can learn from this.

Based on my experience, I think it's a pretty OK airport. The immigration officers are friendly, but for customs, it depends on your luck. You won't get lost there as there are clear signs in airport. I don't know much about the food as I didn't go to any cafes there. WiFi is available and the signal is quite strong.

this was a connection flight and I can only rate the percourse from my arrival gate to the gate taking me to my next flight. Have been there before, its big, its nice, no problems that need pointing out. I am a pretty content traveler. First thing you must do is prepare yourself for any and all possible delay. Have a book, stop and drink or eat. Be merry.j
I did like the wine tasting bar in the international gate I was in. Tasted some California greats but beware, there is a cost. As in other items in the airports.

Immigration cannot cope if delayed planes arrive in a pack. Result more delays. Avoid if catching a connection, use Newark, JFK etc.

A complete lack of oganisation in immigration queue too - hot, no water, no fast lane for those with babies/small kids. A classic example of an airport that doesn't have its act together.

Customer service OK, but ends up with a queue as long as immigration. A simple Triage after you put your bags on the belt would allow a good few to hop onto the next flight and avoid the back up.

I have flew out of Dulles many times during my flight the airport is really nice i thank you get more non stop flights out of Dulles than any another airport in the Washington dc area. can't wait to take the metro over to this airport. so excited.

The second best airport in the D.C. area. I have been to Regan that was also Nice and clean getting there is easy. Dulles is really clean and nice can't wait for Dulles rail to open at the airport it would make travel a lot easier.

Passport control at immigration took 2 hours. Confusing layout. Washington is among the greatest cities worldwide, it really deserves a better main airport.
