Passport control extremely slow and unable to cope with the arriving passengers at acceptable time, although serving only one air company - Wizz air.
You get additional 10 % discount at the duty free on arrival.

Sofia airports has two terminals : T1 (WizzAir) is rather old, T2 (Ryanair) is modern. A very convenient metro just next to T2 T2, half an hour to the city center, cost is 1,60 lev (0,80 ?). A shuttle bus (free) from T1 to T2, but only every half hour.

Plan your transfer to and from the airport well in advance. Public transport - Bus 84 goes to the city center. Overpriced cafes. Airport authorities ask people to arrive 2 hrs before flight departure for security reasons.

Very small airport. No smoking area ( exp. business lounge). Poor food and retail services - only 2 shops and 2 small points with food and beverages. You can take subway direct to city centre or with transfer to business park - it's a good option

Terminal 1 at Sofia is a disaster. Five flights leaving, only four security belts available and open. Equipment kept breaking down. It took me 90 minutes after checking in to get through security and passport control to the gate.

Sofia International Airport is a pretty airport in the area of the capital of Bulgaria and it consists of 2 terminal, an old and a new one, with a car park. I have never seen the old terminal but the new terimnal is clean, clear and quiet comfortable. The airport staff is very friendly but bit slow. Also the flights aren't always on time. The food is good but nothings special. So on the whole it's a great airport!

Sofia is my hometown so Sofia airport is always my point of departure. It is a small one and very compact and easy to find everything inside. I suggest you use a taxi to come to the airport as the public transport is not always on time or is too crowded, however you should try to avoid getting a taxi when you arrive as the prices are way too high departing from the airport area. Make sure you come to the airport with full stomach as there are not many places you can get decent food. The prices in the duty free shop on Arrivals are pretty good, so don't loose the chance to stop by and do some shopping. Enjoy your stay / Have a safe flight! :)

No Fast Track for Business Class in Terminal 2. Confusing layout and very slow security took almost 30 minutes to process 50 people. Even though this is the new terminal its very confusing to find your gates such as A1 is hidden to the left and behind a lot of shops.

To be fair first of all, I have only been to Terminal 1. I heard T2 is much better, but T1 is horrible. It looks like an old bus station in a former Soviet country. Very low quality food and drink services, and very low quality security control. What I did like a lot were the wall mural maps of Bulgaria and Europe - those are really nice!

Not very crowded, and good, free WiFi are definitely a plus! The airport however is a bit boring, and the restaurants are not really restaurants, but bars offering sandwiches only. Shopping is relatively poor. Again, on the plus side, the immigration and security is fast in T2

Terminal 1 - old, crappy and pending demolition/refurbishment soon. Used by low-cost airlines.

Terminal 2 - new, very convenient and FAST terminal where you'd fly through passport control and the gate. Security is tighter than in most of the other EU airports, but is still a quick and painless few-minutes-only exercise. Food at the airport is almost not present... But hey, would you be even thinking of having a meal at the airport when you have some of the best and cheap food in the world awaiting you at every corner in tasty Bulgaria?!:)

Terminal 2 is clean, warm and pleasant. The sterile zone shines. The staff is extremely friendly, polite and helping to all for everything. This is one of my favorite European airports.

no good resturant at departures and arrivals lobby:( j was waiting 5 hours for next plane - nothing to do at this airport. ther is no luggage store too.
