One of the oldest air carriers in the world, Air India happens to be the leading airline of India. The government-owned company was started in 1932. The Indian air carrier serves up to 102 international as well as domestic destinations across five continents. Air India allows customers to visit up to 31 countries.

Indira Gandhi International Airport is the major hub company. Additional hubs include International Airport in Mumbai and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. In 2014, the company joined Star Alliance, thus becoming the 27th participant of the organization.

The company found itself in the Guinness Book for the most passengers evacuated by a civic air carrier. As a matter of fact, 111,000 persons were brought to Mumbai from Amman. The 4,117-km tour lasted up to 59 days. It took place during Persian Gulf War. Air India was hired to have Indian expatriates evacuated from Iraq and Kuwait. The given event was illustrated in the movie Airlift.

The company’s fairly diverse fleet includes 137 aircraft. Here one can see Boeing, Douglass, Ilyushin, Lockheed as well as Airbus models. To learn more about their fleet, go to the corresponding section of our website.

Flight was delayed for over 1h with no updates at boarding gate. I had paid for seat reservation but seat was changed last minute at gate as flight was overbooked (till now no refund has been issued). Lack of enforcement of carry on policies led to a lack of overhead bin space. Cleanliness was acceptable and lavatories remained clean throughout the flight. Food was sub-par but edible. Flight crew were polite and professional. Deplaning was a mess due to lack of instructions and it looked like an emergency evacuation into the jet-way. Baggage arrived around 40 mins after arrival.

No food. A croissant and some juice is all you get, and I was hungry. A croissant isn't exactly breakfast. This was a disappointment.
